The history of Linpro

Linpro AS was formally established in Oslo on 11 October 1995, by Dag Asheim. Linpro was the first Norwegian company with Linux as a dedicated business area.

The company’s activities consisted of consulting services and product sales from 1998. The company quickly became an extremely attractive workplace for students from the Department of Informatics at the University of Oslo. At the beginning of 1999 the company had 5-10 employees.

In 2000, operating services became a new business area, with offices being established in Trondheim and Fredrikstad staffed with professionals associated with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Østfold University College. Linpro also began offering courses in 2001.

As with other players in the IT sector, Linpro endured some turbulent years in 2001 and 2002. Layoffs became necessary and the district offices were closed.

The trend turned in 2003 and since the summer of 2004 the company has had fairly stable operating conditions, substantially assisted by improved business conditions in the IT sector in general. The focus has also gradually shifted from using students on a part-time basis to employing graduates on a full-time basis.

In September 2005, Linpro moved to new premises at Storo in Oslo. In 2006 the company purchased stakes in Linuxlabs (51%) and Oberon in Stavanger (100%).

In the summer of 2008, Linpro AS was acquired by the Swedish company Redpill AB laying the basis for the successful Norwegian-Swedish union that Redpill Linpro comprises today.
